Role Purpose:
To lead, execute, and deliver Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL/ASIL/PL) certification and assessment projects across target safety-critical sectors (e.g., Railway, Automotive, and Industrial Automation). Reporting directly to the Head of Functional Safety, this role is responsible for ensuring all assessment activities strictly adhere to international standards and LRQA accredited procedures, driving technical excellence and delivery efficiency, supporting divisional strategic and revenue targets, and maintaining the highest levels of quality, technical integrity, and customer satisfaction across complex engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Project Delivery: Lead and execute complex functional safety and safety integrity assessment projects throughout the entire system lifecycle, ensuring high-quality delivery on time, within scope, and aligned with budget.
- Comprehensive Assessment & Independent Scrutiny: Conduct rigorous lifecycle document reviews, on-site/remote audit inspections, and testing witnessing (e.g., safety function verification, fault injection, configuration checks). Generate high-standard assessment plans, audit checklists, technical review sheets, inspection reports, and certificate recommendation packages that meet accreditation criteria (e.g., ISO/IEC 17020 / 17065).
- Quality & Document Governance: Ensure absolute integrity, traceability, and completeness of inspection files; manage structured deliverables through LRQA’s controlled workflows and document repositories (e.g., SharePoint/Docflow) to support independent decision-making (DM) processes.
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Act as the lead technical authority and primary point of contact during audit engagements; maintain clear, professional communication with clients, proactively resolve technical ambiguities, and promptly escalate critical safety risks or significant audit findings to the Head of Functional Safety.
- Commercial Enablement & Strategic Growth: Partner with the commercial and technical teams to author robust technical proposals for bids, identify scope adjustments/variation orders, and support the Head of Functional Safety in achieving overall business and revenue growth objectives.
- Operational Discipline & Compliance: Maintain operational rigor by ensuring timely time-tracking in SAP/BYD, supporting continuous professional development (CPD), and upholding all LRQA internal quality, health & safety, and ethics policies.
What You’ll Bring:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or above (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, Railway Signalling, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional Experience: Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience within the TIC (Testing, Inspection, Certification) industry, or in safety-critical systems engineering/R&D environments.
- Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of the full lifecycle (V-model, architecture design, verification & validation, hardware/software integration, fault management, safety cases) for safety-critical Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic (E/E/PE) systems.
- Standards Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in at least one or more key functional safety standard frameworks:
- Railway: EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, EN 50657, EN 50716
- Automotive: ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF)
- Industrial / Machinery / General: IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC 62061
Professional Credentials (Preferred):
- CCAA Registered Inspector/Auditor qualification.
- Recognized Functional Safety Professional/Expert/Manager certification (e.g., FSE/FSM/FSP).
- Communication & Languages: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; proven track record of writing defensible technical assessment reports and effectively presenting findings to clients, regulatory bodies, and technical committees.
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, high integrity under pressure, customer-focused approach, and excellent cross-functional teamwork abilities.
