Role purpose:
Assess the design, manufacture and in-service aspects of engineering assets, using defined Codes, Standards, specifications, procedures and knowledge and experience appropriate for complex/demanding situations. This role may also include managing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex assessments, provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients, research or development work within agreed parameters including budget constraints and contractual requirements.
- Produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employees' work as requested.
- Pursue Continuing Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Assess/recommend the time/value of work to be undertaken for an external client within an agreed fee/cost structure within the commercial aspect of the contract, and issue quotations up to an agreed limit and Lloyds Register’s standard terms and conditions (e.g. commercial notice).
- Discuss/present the deliverable with internal/external client at a senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Assist improvement in service delivery by making recommendations based on internal/external client feedback and to help building the business.
- Coach, mentor and develop technically other employees, as appropriate and share information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
- Contribute to internal/external client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LR relationships.
- Undertake project management where applicable including monitoring project performance against budget and contract requirements.
- Make recommendations to improve service delivery effectiveness (based on client feedback) through changes to processes or work scope such that it leads to a reduction in appraisal effort (where applicable).
- Maintain demonstrable technical competence by ensuring that competency codes remain valid by taking ownership of the activity monitoring and revalidation.
Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:
- Shall possess a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent within the relevant field of engineering. An additional higher tertiary degree e.g. masters may be preferred in some regions.
- Preferably a qualified member of a recognised professional body e.g. www.nspe.org, www.cae.cn, www.engc.org.uk, www.ecindia.org. Likely to be working towards Chartered/Professional Engineer.
- Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge and application. Minimum 10 years relevant working experience.
- Technical competencies to be addressed within authorisations framework. Will be unsupervised for some authorisations. May be supervised for others.
- In depth knowledge of design and construction of pressure equipment/cranes/containers (as appropriate)
- Proficiency in the use of FEA and calculation software
- Proficiency in English language commensurate with the work (both written and verbal)
