Role Purpose  

To undertake complex / tailored business assurance assessments and recommend certification, deferral, suspension, withdrawal of certification against the appropriate standard(s) and lead complex groups / clients / schemes  in the above.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Within authorised area of specialism, undertake business assurance assessments in accordance with current procedures
  • Lead multi-disciplinary assessment teams effectively, ensuring that the visit is completed within the agreed timescales, and co-ordinating team findings to reach conclusions and produce the visit report.
  • Produce high quality visit reports
  • Pass leads and opportunities to appropriate sales colleagues
    • Pass client feedback and insights to appropriate internal recipients
    • Stay abreast of technical developments in own area of expertise, maintaining CPD records and producing them as required
    • Supervise induction/coaching/knowledge transfer for assigned new Assessors
    • Coach Assessors under training, recommending authorisation and further development activities as appropriate
    • Participate fully in Assessor meetings, presenting and coaching others in own area of expertise as appropriate
    • Actively build strong client relationships

Specific job responsibilities

  • Perform ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and 2nd party assessments in the capacity of either Assessor or Lead Assessor in accordance with LRQA latest processes and procedures,
  • Maintain current the knowledge of appropriate regulations and legislation to ensure an effective assessment is undertaken.

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering – Chemical/Civil /Mechanical
  • Existing IMS assessor with a certification body of repute, or, existing assessor in one or more schemes with a potential to be trained in other scheme(s) to qualify as IMS assessor.

Work Experience

•      Quality specific-

Worked in an environment providing exposure to basic concepts of quality, continuous improvement, cost of quality, customer satisfaction, problem solving, variation, quality tools.

•      Environment, Health and Safety specific -

In a position of responsibility in an industrial organization with high risk environmental and health and safety considerations (such as refinery, steel plant, process industry, heavy engineering), as an Environmental practitioner and/or Safety Officer/Safety practitioner.

Assessors should have a general understanding of :

Environmental management system specific-

  • relevant laws and regulatory requirements applicable to EMS assessments,
  • techniques for identification of environmental aspects and associated impacts, including knowledge of techniques for significance assessments,
  • air emissions,
  • water and effluent management,
  • waste management, including both hazardous and non-hazardous waste,
  • use, management and contamination of land,
  • other nuisances including noise, smoke, odour, visual impact, vibrations.

Health and safety management system specific -

  • legislative requirements related to health and safety, developments in H&S legislation, Civil liability, and other laws relevant to H& S
  • management of OHS hazards and risks using methodologies such as HAZOP techniques, Fault / Event Tree analysis, FMECA  etc,
  • identification, classification, reporting and measurement of physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and occupational exposures risks,
  • safety requirements in workplace, safety during maintenance, working in confined spaces, permit to work systems, fire safety, storage and transportation of flammable, toxic and corrosive substances materials,
  • chemical processes safety,
  • use of personal protective equipment,
  • occupational health & hygiene,
  • work equipment including system reliability, plant and machinery safety, integrity of materials and components and pressure systems.
