Purpose of role
Reporting to the Group’s Head of Tax this is a key role within the Group Tax Team.
Whilst preparation and filing of global direct and indirect tax returns has been outsourced to a professional third party and review and approval of tax returns is performed by local in-house statutory compliance teams, this role will support the Head of Tax on global tax compliance as well as own production of the Group’s tax consolidation for inclusion in the annual report.
This role will also manage 1 direct report, the Assistant Tax Manager, responsible for UK tax compliance – direct (prepared in-house) and indirect (outsourced).
Key Activities
- Manage the year end process and group tax consolidation under IFRS, including consolidated tax notes, data analysis for internal and external purposes and manage relationship with external auditors.
- Preparing year-end tax packs for Europe and US to provide accurate and timely submissions for year-end reporting, including identification of GAAP differences and reconciliation of balance sheet / PL charges.
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting for corporation taxes and VAT and tax cashflow for the UK.
- Manage and develop 1 x direct report responsible for UK tax returns (direct and indirect), local statutory provisioning / notes and year-end reporting.
- Manage R&D tax relief claims for the UK with advisors.
- Lead on tax governance, including maintenance of the CCO risk register, tax risk register and SAO annual process.
- Support the Statutory & Compliance (S&C) team on more complex tax issues in US and Europe.
- Point of contact for the business for high quality tax advice in relation to operational matters concerning client contracts and activity and support integration of UK acquired entities.
- Assist the Head of Tax in management of the Group structure including reorganisations to optimise both the structure and repatriation of income to the UK.
- Ensure that an appropriate tax control framework is are in place in accordance with Group policy to meet the objectives of the Group’s tax strategy.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Applicants should have a natural "can-do" attitude and the ability to concisely summarise complicated tax issues.
- Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in relevant tax roles for large multinational groups.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong tax accounting and consolidation experience and understanding of local GAAP and IFRS.
- Strong technical tax experience across a range of countries and preferably a wider experience of international taxes.
- Experience of VAT/GST and similar regimes in an international context.
- Ability to deal with Tax Administrations in an effective but constructive and cooperative manner to manage and protect the LRQA Group’s reputation as a good corporate citizen.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
Desirable
- Experience of a range of tax reporting tools and tax automation for reporting or other tax activities – AlphaTax, BPC and ByD (SAP).
- Applicants will have experience of liaising with senior internal stakeholders.
