Job Specification: Mid-Level Test Engineer (Contractor)

• Location: Remote (with occasional on-site in [Birmingham])
• Contract Type: Contract (6 months with probable extension to 12 months)
• Day Rate: Competitive, based on experience

About the Role:

We are looking for a Mid-Level Test Engineer with a strong foundation in manual testing and a working knowledge of Azure DevOps practices. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products through hands-on testing, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and continuous improvement of our QA processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute comprehensive manual test cases to validate functionality, usability, and performance.
• Collaborate with developers, product owners, and Azure DevOps engineers to ensure high-quality releases.
• Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as part of an Agile team.
• Log, track, and manage defects using Azure Dev Ops or similar.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of test documentation and test plans.
• Support the integration of testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
• Provide feedback on product quality and suggest improvements to processes and tools.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 2–4 years of experience in manual software testing.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and QA methodologies.
• Proficiency with test management and defect tracking tools (Azure Dev Ops or similar).
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Desirable:

• Exposure to test automation tools (e.g. Cypress) is a plus.
• ISTQB Foundation Level or similar certification.
