Senior Test Engineer

Location: Birmingham, GB, B37 7ES
Company: LRQA
Job ID:43378
Location:Birmingham : 1 Trinity Park : Bi
Position Category:Information Technology
Position Type:Employee Regular
Role Purpose
We’re seeking a Senior Test Engineer to lead quality engineering across LRQA’s AI initiatives. This role is central to embedding quality early, applying automation intelligently, and ensuring every release consistently meets the highest standards of reliability and security.
You will define and maintain the QA approach across multiple workstreams for all LRQA AI applications. Working as part of a cross‑functional agile team, you will ensure each delivered feature meets rigorous expectations for functionality, reliability, and security.
This is a hands‑on role combining test strategy, leadership, and execution. You will work closely with developers, product owners, and architects to build quality into the delivery process rather than treating it as a final checkpoint. You’ll lead manual and exploratory testing while introducing automation where it provides measurable value. The overarching goal: predictable, secure, high‑quality delivery across all cyber products.
Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Planning
- Define and implement test strategies for new features and integrations across AI applications.
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage across functional, integration, regression, performance, and security domains.
- Collaborate with developers and product owners to align testing with business requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Drive continuous improvement of QA processes, tooling, and automation frameworks.
Testing & Execution
- Manage the QA process across all stages of the development lifecycle.
- Perform manual and exploratory testing across web applications, APIs, and system integrations.
- Support the creation and maintenance of automated test suites (Cypress, Playwright, etc.).
- Contribute to developing and maintaining performance test suites (e.g., K6).
- Execute end‑to‑end testing for integrated systems, with emphasis on reliability, security, and user experience.
- Document, triage, and track defects through to resolution, validating fixes and regression‑testing impacted areas.
- Ensure test data and environments are prepared and maintained to meet delivery timelines.
Quality Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with developers and DevOps engineers to integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, supporting TDD and BDD practices.
- Promote a shift‑left approach to quality by embedding testing early in the development lifecycle.
- Act as the quality gatekeeper for releases, ensuring production deployments meet agreed acceptance criteria.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyse production incidents and feedback loops to identify preventative measures and improve coverage.
- Encourage the adoption of performance, accessibility, and security testing practices.
- Champion the use of metrics and reporting to enhance visibility of product quality, test coverage, and release readiness.
About You
- Proven experience as a Senior Test Engineer, QA Lead, or Quality Analyst within complex digital or technical programmes.
- Strong expertise in manual testing of web applications and APIs, with familiarity in automation tools (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium).
- Working knowledge of performance testing tools (e.g., K6) is desirable.
- Experience in agile delivery environments (Scrum or Kanban).
- Deep understanding of software testing principles, lifecycle management, and defect tracking.
- Knowledge of secure coding and testing practices, especially in cloud‑based or API‑driven architectures.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen eye for edge cases.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and influence quality outcomes.
- ISTQB Foundation or Advanced certification desirable.
- Exposure to AI testing, SaaS, or digital assurance domains is beneficial.
