Food Audit Manager – Netherlands 

This role offers a predominantly remote working arrangement, with up to 80% - 90% of your time based remotely within the Netherlands and approximately 10% - 20% in the office. It is a highly autonomous position, designed for individuals who are comfortable managing their own workload and scheduling. You will have the flexibility to organise your diary independently to meet business objectives, attend key meetings, and ensure effective collaboration with colleagues, while maintaining a strong focus on delivery and outcomes

 

Role Purpose

The Food Audit Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and managing a team of permanent and freelance auditors within the food and feed sector. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality audits in line with accreditation standards such as FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, GMP+, BRCGS, and IFS.

 

You will play a key role in driving audit excellence, ensuring compliance, supporting business growth, and maintaining strong client relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Team Management & Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of auditors (including Lead Auditors and Auditors).
  • Conduct performance reviews, development planning, and regular feedback sessions.
  • Manage team capacity, resource planning, and workforce allocation.
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding of new auditors (permanent and freelance).
  • Ensure consistent auditor qualification levels, competence, and audit quality

 

Operational Management

  • Oversee the delivery of audit programmes in line with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor productivity, utilisation, KPIs, and audit deadlines.
  • Support auditors with complex technical queries, decision-making, and escalations.
  • Collaborate with scheduling and operations teams to optimise audit planning.
  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement in audit operations

 

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure audits are conducted in full compliance with relevant standards (e.g., FSSC 22000 v6, ISO 22000:2018, GMP+, BRCGS, IFS).
  • Conduct witness audits, technical reviews, and internal quality checks.
  • Support external accreditation bodies (e.g., RvA, UKAS) during audits and assessments.
  • Lead and implement quality improvement initiatives within the management system.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and certification requirements

 

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for client concerns and audit-related issues.
  • Support commercial teams with technical expertise during tenders and client discussions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external scheme owners, partners, and accreditation bodies.

 

Audit Delivery Contribution

  • Where required, perform audits (individually or as part of a team) to maintain technical expertise and accreditation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in food safety and management systems.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and development of audit services

 

Essential Requirements

  • Fluent in English & Dutch (written and spoken).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field.
  • Significant experience in food safety, quality management, and certification auditing.
  • Experience within the food industry, including hands-on auditing.
  • Recognised 3rd party audit qualifications (e.g., BRCGS, IFS, GMP+, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000).
  • Proven experience leading audit teams or managing technical professionals
  • Strong knowledge of accreditation requirements and audit methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable using digital tools and remote auditing technologies
  • Experience supporting commercial activities such as tenders and client growth is desirable.
